Transport Engineer-Cost Savings

Job Description:

• Network optimization of transport; migration of circuits to dark fiber
• Identify cost savings then work with operations to migrate circuits for additional cost savings
• Will be responsible for ordering circuits from cradle to grave, to include, but not limited to, cell site EVDO Carrier Add, Ethernet Backhaul (EBH), LTE and new build cell sites.
• Must be comfortable and skilled in the entire process form selecting vendors to reviewing contracts to cutting purchase orders.
• Will be responsible for creating ASR’s, ordering T1's, T3's and Trunks (DS3’s); handle T1 disconnects
• Have experience coordinating/tracking circuit delivery with technicians, engineers, other team members and vendors, and issuing change orders / disconnects circuits, as needed. This includes maintaining accurate project lists and trackers and staying in sync with cell site build and modification priorities.
• Provide weekly reporting on Transport project status.
• There will be a lot of communications with Vendors on a daily basis.
• Have in-depth working experience with transport network facilities design including:
• DS0-DS1-DS3 cross-connects
• OC3
• OC192 Ring Designs and entrance facilities utilized for connectivity of Inter-office facilities (IOF)
• Inter-machine trunks (IMT)
• Wireless to wireless transport systems
• E911 trunks to the new PSAPs for phase 0
• Allocated customer facilities assignment (CFA)
• Provisioned spans using ASRs for new build cell sites and growth for existing trunk groups i.e. 2A, 2B, LD etc.
• Using various bandwidths and updated the transport database Granite/Xng.

Requirements:

• Must have experience using Granite/Xng System, including working knowledge of Paths, Segments, and Work Order screens.
• Must have experience with DS3 disconnects
• Must have knowledge of grooming T1’s with Operations Department
• Strong knowledge of LEC & ILEC telephony networks and practices.
• The candidate must have CLR & DLR experience
• Tracking the progress of the network build from a facilities standpoint, delivery of network transport facilities and the turn up of the facilities on the network.
• Troubleshooting skills in response to outages, design issues, network flaws, etc.
• Working experience with QORA, proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power Point, etc.
• Strong analytic, interpersonal and communication skills
